There have been few innovations in the transport sector so far – compared to other industries – and so induction loops have been used in the transport infrastructure for many decades. In traffic engineering, an induction loop is used for vehicle detection on the guideway. Large, electrically conductive cable loops, which are embedded in or laid under the road surface, are used, for example in front of the stop lines of demand-controlled traffic lights.
The average driver spends about 9% of his driving time in traffic jams, generating additional direct and indirect costs of over EUR 80 bn per year in Germany, for example, at federal level.
In 2017, in Germany alone, 1.9 billion hours were wasted annually looking for a parking space.
Whereby 3.2 billion litres of fuel were unnecessarily consumed.
This caused economic damage of over
EUR 45 billion per year.
The fuel consumption for finding a parking space can be estimated at about 7% of the total fuel consumption per year for passenger cars.
With the smart traffic and parking management system TAPS, LTS AG has the world’s first completely energy self-sufficient ground sensor, which on the one hand guarantees the dynamic detection of vehicles on the road and on the other hand the stationary detection of objects in car parks and multi-storey car parks, thus making a significant contribution to intelligent traffic control in real time.
The associated innovative energy concept of the sensor ensures a stable autonomous energy supply and has multiple safeguards. The ground sensor is therefore completely self-supplying and does not depend on batteries and accumulators.
This high-quality, low-maintenance product with V4A housing and safety glass is resistant to all weather conditions and offers reliable protection for more than ten years. Extensive application possibilities with practically every commercially available interface allow easy integration into existing traffic systems – from LoRa, SigFox, LTE, Wifi and optical interfaces to copper wire.
In addition, the TAPS sensor can be installed quickly and selectively in the ground within only about 30 minutes. A short hole in the middle of the track to be monitored is sufficient to let the sensor in. In future, roads will no longer have to be torn up over large areas. The time-consuming laying of induction loops and cables and the associated high maintenance costs over many years are a thing of the past. TAPS reduces the previously cost-intensive construction and maintenance costs for the public sector by up to 50 %.

The installation as well as the maintenance of induction loops are complex and expensive because the road surface has to be milled off and the ground has to be torn up.

The data determined by the TAPS sensor is directly and automatically forwarded via the TAPS gateway. Our platform processes the data in real time and makes it available to the end customer.
