Modern cities with millions of inhabitants can no longer do without a complex traffic management system to avoid gridlock. Software development for traffic management helps to manage the collected data. Maintenance work on traffic control equipment, cable laying, pipe repairs and much more often cause widespread road closures and associated diversions. Traffic jams up everywhere and on top of that there is the often unavoidable search for a parking space.

Targeted sensors with a self-sufficient energy concept and software from LTS designed for this purpose can record and evaluate numerous data about the current traffic situation in real time. This includes, for example, the occupancy of lanes or parking spaces and the amount of vehicles travelling in a certain area. 

The LTS Taps Gateway is needed to forward the data to the cloud or the customer's infrastructure. This receives the data from the sensors embedded in the ground via radio protocol and forwards it immediately to the appropriate locations after processing. The operator of the monitoring network can thus react immediately to changes and take appropriate measures.

An example of this are certain traffic lights that only switch to green as soon as a vehicle approaches the stop line and the other traffic directions are free. Due to the resulting longer green phases in the other directions, more vehicles can pass through the intersection and traffic flows more smoothly. This is particularly efficient during low-traffic periods and at night and minimises exhaust fumes at the traffic lights from petrol and diesel cars.

Modern energy-autonomous sensors can be installed and screwed into the roadway in about 30 minutes after drilling a hole in the road. In addition, they are compatible with almost every interface commonly available on the market and can thus be easily integrated into existing systems. This applies, for example, to LTE, SigFox, LoRa as well as Wifi with optical interface up to the copper line. The simple installation and maintenance reduces construction and maintenance costs by about half. Entire streets no longer have to be torn up because no cables or induction loops are laid.
